PR Workshop Offers Nonprofits Media Training
Nonprofit PR workshop led by Lindsey Carnett will offer Santa Barbara County nonprofit staff media visibility and pitch training.

Marketing Maven CEO and President Lindsey Carnett will lead a free, half-day public relations workshop for nonprofit professionals and board members serving Santa Barbara County. The session, from 9 a.m. to noon on October 7, 2026, is presented by California Lutheran University’s Center for Nonprofit Leadership with support from the Santa Barbara Foundation. It will cover story ideas, media pitches, and appropriate media targets. The workshop is scheduled at the Santa Barbara Foundation’s South County office.
Practical Media Training
The three-part session is offered free to nonprofit professionals and board members serving communities throughout Santa Barbara County. Participants will develop potential story ideas, refine media pitches, and receive feedback in a collaborative setting.
Attendees will also learn how to repurpose earned media coverage across other marketing channels to support broader organizational objectives.

Media Visibility Goals
The workshop will explore how earned media can support donor engagement, community awareness, board recruitment and engagement, and organizational reputation. A panel of local nonprofit leaders will share experiences, practical strategies, and lessons learned from generating media coverage.
Carnett has more than two decades of marketing and public relations experience and serves as a faculty lecturer for Cal Lutheran’s Center for Nonprofit Leadership.
