UCLA Anderson Announces 2026 Gerald Loeb Award Winners

2026 Gerald Loeb Awards winners included reporting from The Economist, The New York Times, Reuters, and The Washington Post.

UCLA Anderson School of Management announced winners in 13 categories at the 2026 Gerald Loeb Awards in New York City. The awards, presented with the G. and R. Loeb Foundation, recognized business, finance, and economic journalism at Capitale on October 8. Stephen Engelberg of ProPublica received the Lifetime Achievement Award, while Marcelo Prince of The Wall Street Journal received the Minard Editor Award. Tyler Mathisen hosted the event, which was attended by journalists, media leaders, and supporters from around the world.

Honorees Recognized In New York

Engelberg is editor-in-chief of ProPublica. Prince is investigations coverage chief at The Wall Street Journal. The event also included a moment of silence for journalists who are detained, imprisoned, dead, or missing while doing their jobs.

Competition categories were presented by journalists from Bloomberg, The Boston Globe, CBS News New York City, CNN, NYSE TV, and Schwab Network. Frank Mottek, host of “Mottek on Money” on KABC-AM, voiced the category finalist announcements.

Thirteen Reporting Categories

The 2026 winners included The Economist’s Scam Inc. in audio, STAT’s reporting on FDA chaos in beat reporting, and The New York Times’ Liberation Day in breaking news. The Wall Street Journal won commentary for The Financial Engineering Fueling the AI Race.

The Washington Post won explanatory reporting for The Militarization of Space and feature reporting for The Deadliest Workplace in America. Reuters won the international category for Dark Fleets, while The New York Times won investigative reporting for Money Trail at the White House.

The Miami Herald and WLRN News won local reporting for Killer Train. The San Francisco Chronicle won personal finance and consumer reporting for Burned, and Bloomberg Businessweek and DCTV won video and longform for Can’t Look Away.

CBS News/60 Minutes won video news for The Price of Life. The Financial Times won visual storytelling for End of The Line: How Saudi Arabia’s Neom Dream Unraveled.

Honorable Mentions Announced

The Wall Street Journal received an honorable mention in explanatory reporting for The Business of Babies. Business Insider received an honorable mention in video and longform for Inside the Secretive World of America’s AI Data Centers.

The awards were created in 1957 to recognize reporting on business, finance, and the economy that informs investors and the public.
