Communities In Schools has added 10 former students to its National Alumni Advisory Council. The members will help shape alumni engagement across the organization, drawing on their experience as CIS students. They will provide feedback on programs, strengthen connections across the CIS alumni network, and identify leadership, engagement, and professional growth opportunities. The group includes alumni from 10 CIS affiliates nationwide.
New Council Members
The new members are Ariana Ellis of CIS of Atlanta; Leanna Esquivel of CIS of Tacoma; J’Niyah Freeman of CIS of Georgia; Bryan Harris of CIS of Los Angeles; Amanye Jinwright of CIS of Charlotte-Mecklenburg; James Leap of CIS of Eastern Pennsylvania; Kaylee Main-Gomez of CIS of Nevada; Miracle Mozzee of CIS of South Carolina; James Rivera of CIS of East Texas; and Kuniya Young of CIS of Nation’s Capital.
Cecilia Lee, Principal of Alumni Relations at CIS National Office, said:
“Our alumni bring unique perspectives that help guide and strengthen our work. We are proud to have this exceptional group join the council and look forward to the meaningful contributions they will make.”
Leadership Conference Participation
Several council members traveled to Washington, D.C., earlier this month for the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Leadership Conference and the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Annual Legislative Conference. Four alumni attended CHCI programming, including conference sessions, networking opportunities, and a reception with professionals and policymakers.
Five additional council members attended CBCF events focused on leadership, civic engagement, public service, and community impact. The events gave participants opportunities to learn from national leaders and consider how their experiences could support future students.
Memphis Convening
Council members will meet in Memphis, Tennessee, from September 24 through 27 for their first in-person convening. The meeting will cover CIS’s alumni strategy, shared goals, relationships among members, and approaches to alumni engagement nationwide.
Rey Saldaña, President and CEO at CIS National Office, said:
“One of the greatest measures of our impact is seeing former students return as leaders. As a CIS alumnus, I'm honored to welcome our new council members and grateful for the perspectives they bring. Their participation in national leadership experiences like CHCI and CBCF is just the beginning.”
